A poor list of the top 15 people who changed the web. Some shouldn't be on there, and some shouldn't be ranked where they are. My top 10 list is:

1. Vincent Cerf and Robert Kahn - inventors of what became TCP/IP, the protocol that makes the internet possible. They invented the way our computers talk to each other today.

2. Sir Tim Berners-Lee - inventor of what has become the World Wide Web. It was started as a way for scientists and researchers to collaborate, and through his invention of HTML, we have the web as it is now.

3. Ward Christensen - inventor of the Bulletin Board System, or BBS. Definitely a precursor to the internet today, my own parents used it when they lived in a small apartment before I was born, so its use had a personal effect. It was one of the first major "networks" of people.

4. Al Gore - The men above this created the technology and infrastructure that would late become the internet. The men below took that technology and used it in new ways. But Al Gore, throughout his political career, helped pave the way to make the internet what it is today. If the internet had remained a tool solely created and maintained by its users, with no outside help from politics, it could never have become as great as it is.

5. Jerry Yang and David Filo - creators of Yahoo, one of the most important and influential information portals of the web. Many sites owe their existence to the services Yahoo provided in the early years of the web.

6. Larry Page and Sergey Brin - inventors/founders of Google. Whether or not you agree with some of their current business practices, they undoubtedly changed the internet, and how we find information.

7. Steve Case and Jim Kimsey - turned AOL into the giant that it was in the 1990s. As much as you may have hated AOL, it influenced the internet into what it is today, and is directly responsible for many modern internet users.

8. Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger - the two men behind Wikipedia. They revolutionized information on the internet, and treated the public as if they were (oh my!) full grown adults.

9. The team at Friendster - I couldn't get specific names, but before Facebook and MySpace, there was Friendster. In fact, it was people inspired by Friendster who created MySpace, and there's no denying that Facebook was inspired in part by MySpace. But in the end, only one site truly started it all.

10. Jarkko Oikarinen - the creator of IRC (Internet Relay Chat). An important tool that revolutionized the way we communicated with each other online. In my opinion, led to the development of AOL chat rooms and AIM, Google Chat, ICQ, etc.

I'm so confused as to what I think of this. It's either brilliantly creative, or emotionally abusive laziness.

Either way: Send me $35 for gas and a cheap disposable camera, and I will take pictures of the mountains and the ocean in Malibu for you. I'll even let you specify the weather. Really. I'm serious.
